Your Community’s Success in Using Energy Wisely Begins with You
With Ontario’s second (successful) Energy Conservation Week now behind us,
we at the Ontario Power Authority are focused on "Count Me In! Community Challenge
Day" on August 14th. I hope you are too.
I don’t know how you experienced Energy Conservation Week, but I enjoyed attending Now
House events in Kitchener, Ottawa and Toronto and meeting many incredible
people. Each one was doing something to advance our "culture of conservation,"
and we need to continue to build on this momentum. Everyone should be a noisy,
visible champion for conservation, and Challenge Day is a great opportunity
to do so with your family, friends and neighbours.
Energy Conservation Week created a focal point for learning what we can do
to save energy and make Ontario a better place to live—especially for our kids
who will inherit the world we leave them. Count Me In! Community Challenge
Day recognizes that we live in social settings with common interests and will
respond positively with real team spirit when given the opportunity. The number
of communities already counted in tells me this is true.
The 100
ideas shared on this website offer inspiration on how to take action.
So when you make a pledge, organize or attend an event, make the choice to
buy an energy-efficient appliance, or do all sorts of other smart things,
you benefit your family, friends and neighbours—and yourself!
I thank everyone working to make “Count Me In! Community Challenge Day” a
success. You’re enabling Ontario to meet the most ambitious conservation targets
in North America. Best of luck to the participating communities—we’re all winners
because of what you do on August 14th—and we’ll gain even more if you keep
it up all year. After all, you can’t create a culture in just one day.
